Norblin's Stalowa Wola exhibition in India
curator: Anna Szlazak
coordinator in India: Karni Singh Jasol
November 2-23, 2011 – National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, December 13, 2011 – January 8, 2012 – National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai.
The exhibition “Stefan Norblin (1892-1952). Versatile Artist”, which was organized for the first time in post-war Poland in September 2011 by the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola, will also have its presentation in India.
Already on November 2, 2011, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi will host the opening ceremony of the exhibition, with the participation of the Ministers of Culture – Poland and India.
The next venue for the presentation will be the NGMA in Mumbai (former Bombay), where the artist’s history will come full circle. Exactly at this Gallery Stefan Norblin had his only solo exhibition in India in 1944.
In Indian galleries, the multifaceted and diverse work of the artist of three continents will be presented, as in Poland, also in three scenes: Polish, Indian, American, according to the fascinating turns of his life.
The exhibition of Norblin’s work in India is an important point of promotion of Polish art in the world, as it was in this country that the artist’s multifaceted talent blossomed. Norblin stayed in India in 1941-46; at that time he decorated several modern residences with murals and large canvases (including the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, where he also designed the interiors and furniture).
As a result, Stefan Norblin left the largest collection of Polish art in Asia, currently undergoing conservation by Polish conservators and Indian specialists with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The exhibition is the centerpiece of the cultural setting of the India-EU summit under the Polish EU presidency.
