
Plein-air workshop in Rozwadów ‘Whispers of history’ - classes for young people
[Course date changed!] The aim of the workshop is to prepare a group of young people for creative work in the open air. Participants will develop the ability to observe, analyse and interpret the urban landscape in the Rozwadów area. They will become acquainted with the visual values of the natural and cultural environment of the architectural development of the city, the Rozwadów estate in the immediate vicinity of the Alfons Karpinski Painting Gallery. The series of outdoor workshops comprises four meetings.

Day one
Substantive introduction to the exercises. What are the characteristics of a cityscape? The issue of perspective using examples from art history (Venetian veduta, Italian painting, Dutch landscape, Impressionists);
Practical exercises: drawing from nature in the open air (spatial compositions, series of sketches, examples of urban architecture; paper, pencil).
Day two
Drawing exercises using colour (pastel crayons, watercolour paints);
Concrete architectural object, issue of perspective in nature;
Enrichment of linear drawing with colour elements that emphasise the character of architecture.
Third day
Painting exercises (tempera, acrylic on a painting board 40×50 cm)
Shaping a composition based on observation from nature (streets, trees, selected fragments of city architecture)
Fourth day
Painting exercise ‘Light, value and texture in creating the illusion of space’;
Study of urban architecture on the basis of perspective (space composed with paint (tempera, acrylic on a painting board 40×50 cm).
