WORLD OF THE BEES
15.02-29.04.2018,
The fascinating world of spiders and scorpions, exhibition venue: the Children’s Education Center, 14 Staszica St. (building next to Ballada Cinema)
They have extraordinary adaptability. They live everywhere – they have mastered all environments on Earth – we will not meet them only at the poles. We already know more than 42 thousand species of these animals, and more are still being discovered. These are, of course, spiders. Wherever we are we can be sure that they are around. Although we often encounter them, the sight of them mainly causes “goosebumps” or disgust, and sometimes even serious phobias. Spiders are animals as mysterious as they are interesting, often triggering fear but also unjustified aggression. To overcome these barriers and prejudices, it is necessary, first of all, to get to know them better.
Starting from February 15, the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola invites you to another educational nature exhibition titled “The World of Spiders.” This time, the exhibition features dozens of live specimens from a group of animals that evoke perhaps the strongest extreme emotions: spiders, scorpions, and centipedes.
The exhibition delights visitors with a rich variety of live spiders and scorpions from both Americas, Asia, Australia, and Africa. Among the specimens on display are the Royal Tarantula, the Citrus Tarantula, the Black Widow, and the Emperor Scorpion. The exhibition also includes elements designed for the youngest visitors, making it easier to learn about and even love spiders. This is a unique opportunity to transport yourself into a colorful, tropical world, learn more about the environment in which these creatures live, and most importantly, to debunk the common stereotypes about them. Everyone can discover that spiders are actually a very beneficial group of animals for the environment, impressing and fascinating us with their extraordinary skills and abilities. Scientists are intrigued by spider silk, which is 30 times thinner than a human hair yet proportionally stronger than steel. Some can fly, while others live in burrows they dig; they produce paralyzing venom and possess excellent vision. They are incredibly effective hunters, often preying on creatures larger than themselves.
We invite all those who are fascinated by these amazing animals or would like to overcome their own barriers. Meeting live spiders, scorpions, or centipedes can become a great nature adventure, and the knowledge that the exhibition provides will help visitors to understand and appreciate them better.
All specimens on display are housed in sealed terrariums, allowing for filming and photography from just a few centimeters away, while also ensuring the safety of visitors.
The exhibition is accompanied by an interesting and varied educational offer for all audience groups.
