WORLD OF ARTHROPODS

Nature exhibition from the collection of the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow
Place: the building of the exhibition “COP for the Future”

The Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola invites visitors to explore the fascinating world of arthropods. Nearly 200 specimens on display have been provided by the Natural History Museum of the ISEZ PAN in Kraków. This extensive collection features both prehistoric models and contemporary examples. For the first time, the Stalowa Wola Museum is also showcasing live arthropods, a significant attraction for nature enthusiasts.
The exhibition highlights the largest and most diverse animal group that has conquered all habitable environments on Earth. Arthropods include crustaceans, insects, and arachnids. Over 1,500,000 species of living arthropods have been described to date. They play a crucial role in agriculture, medicine (e.g., as vectors of diseases), and the functioning of major biotopes around humans.
The evolution of arthropods has led to an extraordinary variety of forms and fascinating adaptations that enable them to thrive even in extreme habitats. Arthropods are the only invertebrate group fully adapted to life on land. The exhibits provide insight into topics such as the early stages of evolution and the less-known marine forms of arthropods. In addition to natural specimens, the exhibition features models, photographs, nature films, and a mini-laboratory.
Thanks to the museum’s efforts, live specimens of arthropods from various environments are included, such as crustaceans, arachnids, and insects (until June 24, 2015).
The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive educational program tailored for children, adults, and individuals with disabilities. The workshops offered are interactive, with activities involving live arthropods like centipedes, crabs, and scorpions.
For detailed information about the educational offerings, visit the museum’s website at:

Creative activities, games, and workshops have been designed for families to make learning about the world of arthropods fun for the youngest visitors as well.
