We promote Polish design
Designer Anna Bera’s exhibition in Milan and New York!
The Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola is constantly promoting the latest Polish design, all the more so if the designers come from the region and use its natural potential. Such is the case with Anna Bera, whose designs have been recognized around the world. The designer was among the 32 finalists of the Launch Pad program, which is one of the highlights of the Wanted Design Manhattan festival.
During the spring trade show season, Anna Bera will present its debut series of multifunctional furniture – the Earth Stone Wood collection – to an international audience for the first time. Already
April we will see it during the Milan design week, then in May as part of the NYCxDESIGN platform, bringing together numerous design events taking place in
New York.
Anna Bera is, after renowned designer Pawel Grobelny, another designer that the Regional Museum supports and promotes. With her debut at such prestigious fairs in Milan and New York, she joins the ranks of promising Polish designers of the younger generation.
The Earth Stone Wood modular furniture collection, created by Anna Bera’s studio, takes us back to the iconic stone circles found in some of the oldest mountains in Europe – the Holy Cross Mountains. The designer taps into the energy of the quartzite rocks, juxtaposing them
with the beliefs and spirituality of the Slavs. She looks for the hidden order, the natural state of things, in ancient culture and rituals. He promotes the idea of returning to natural resources, with a simultaneous emphasis on modern design.
As a result of this philosophy, unique solid wood furniture is created. All of them made by hand. Anna Bera creates furniture from cherry wood or reclaimed fir wood, among others. She also uses the shou sugi ban burning technique. A single piece of furniture simultaneously functions as a table, seat
and storage space. An arrangement of two or more modules additionally allows a dresser to be completed. A set of pieces becomes a multifunctional and modular furniture, and their dynamic spatial relationships introduce the variability characteristic of a natural landscape.
The form of the Earth Stone Wood furniture is a naturalistic study of a particular stone of quartzite rock. The designer aims to create a functional object that is the transfer of a piece of landscape to the interior, with the assumption that this landscape, as well as all of nature, is characterized by the coexistence of order and chaos. She believes that the task of contemporary designers is to create spaces that refer back to the natural environment and its attributes, such as mystery, hidden order, variability, sensual richness, and dynamic natural light.
The Whole Elements is a design studio and woodworking studio, founded by Anna Bera in 2014. The designer creates furniture at the intersection of art and design, which she makes by hand in short series or as unique pieces. She is a designer, visual artist, sculptor, stage designer and carpenter, and a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. Her field of interest is the search for an appropriate form for the realization of intellectual assumptions based on previous research. She draws her inspiration from the study of man’s relationship to nature in biological, cultural and spiritual contexts. In this process, contact with the material is very important to her, so the creation of the studio from the beginning was connected with the establishment of the workshop, where she carries out all projects. www.thewholeelements.com
