The exhibition ‘UNPOLISHED – young design from Poland’, organised through the efforts of the Polish Institute in Brussels and the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola, is the largest comprehensive presentation of Polish contemporary design abroad in years.

The exhibition, which is a slightly modified version of the display that the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola presented in June of this year, is part of the DESIGN SEPTEMBER festival—one of the most important European showcases of design, graphic arts, architecture, industrial design, and applied arts. Young Polish designers will showcase their most interesting new works, joining the ranks of internationally recognized creators. The exhibition features works from 16 Polish designers and design groups, most of whom belong to the generation of thirty-somethings.

In selecting the works and designers, we sought the most characteristic elements of Polish design, features that distinguish us from other designers. When preparing such exhibitions, we always face the question of what we actually want to prove. Is it that Poles design like everyone else? Or that they design differently from everyone else? – points out the curator of the exhibition, Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka. – In our opinion, the presented works confirm both of these theories.
