ASIAN VERSION OF POLISH DESIGN EXHIBITION

In August 2012, the 14th edition of the exhibition will be presented to the South Korean public at the Korea Foundation gallery in downtown Seoul.

The Korea Foundation is a recognized organization promoting Korean culture worldwide. It also works to popularize global culture and art in Korea, bringing the achievements of artists from around the world closer to the residents of Seoul.

Now, Polish designers will take center stage in this prestigious and frequently visited gallery. The exhibition will be accompanied by lectures on Polish design.

So far, UNPOLISHED – YOUNG DESIGN FROM POLAND has been presented at many prestigious design festivals and museums of applied arts, including the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Designer’s Days and Design Week in Paris, Budapest Design Week, Inno Design Tech Expo in Hong Kong, as well as the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne and the Design Museum in Helsinki. The UNPOLISHED – YOUNG DESIGN FROM POLAND exhibition is a project aimed at showcasing the most interesting works and achievements of young Polish designers to as wide an audience as possible. It aims to demonstrate that Polish design and applied arts, inspired by rich Polish experiences and traditions, are distinct phenomena and thus attractive and worth discovering. The exhibition has garnered interest among audiences visiting design festivals across Europe, and the authors of the presented works—young Polish designers—are making a mark in international markets thanks to their talent, imagination, experiences, unconventional ideas, and passion.

In Seoul, 18 works by 16 designers and design groups will be presented: Aze Design, Agnieszka Bar, Betonu, Grzegorz Cholewiak, Agnieszka Czop + Joanna Rusin, DBWT, Maciej Gąsienica Giewont, Kafti, Kompott, Bogdan Kosak, Malafora, Karina Marusińska, Alicja Patanowska, Wzorowo, and Oskar Zięta. The Korean audience will see well-known and award-winning projects by Oskar Zięta, Aze Design, Betonu, as well as new works by Alicja Patanowska, Maciej Gąsienica Giewont, and the Wzorowo group. The exhibition will prominently feature Polish specialties—glass and porcelain objects, along with the admired “inflatable” sofas by Malafora and unique carpets by the Czop/Rusin duo, which are particularly popular in the Far East.

The curators of the exhibition are recognized authorities in the field of Polish and global design: Agnieszka Jacobson Cielecka, artistic director of the Łódź Design festival, and Paweł Grobelny, designer and curator of design exhibitions. The exhibition is organized by the Korea Foundation (www.kf.or.kr), the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (www.culture.pl; www.azja.iam.pl), and the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola (www.muzeum.stalowawola.pl) in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Seoul (www.seul.polemb.net).

The UNPOLISHED – YOUNG DESIGN FROM POLAND exhibition is an important element of the rich Polish cultural program in Korea prepared by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
