Secrets of physics - interactive exhibition
May 22 – October 2, 2011
Workshop hall at ZS nr 1, 17 Hutnicza St.
The exhibition provided by the Lodz Science Center “Experymentarium” consists of 22 exhibits that will bring children and young people closer to many interesting physical phenomena occurring in nature, also known from everyday life.
The prepared stands present issues from such branches of physics as optics, acoustics and dynamics. In addition, the exhibition shows the action of magnetic forces and the electricity of matter. Through their own experimentation, physical issues will become more interesting and easier for students to understand.
Specially prepared devices will help visitors understand the action of centrifugal force, with the help of a liquid set in motion, as well as a ball moving on a loop, bent into a circle. The phenomenon illustrating the mechanism of laminar and turbulent flow formation will be brought closer by a device called the Water Vortex. Secrets of optics will deal with the image reflected in various mirrors, including the so-called Venetian mirror, and the operation of the lens.
Also on display will be the Nipkow Shield, an invention of Paul Nipkow in 1884, which contributed greatly to the development of television. It is a device used for mechanical and synthetic analysis of images. This exhibit can be called the ancestor of the television.
Visitors will additionally find out about the various capabilities of their own bodies by actively participating in experiments concerning, for example, the generation of electricity or the conduction of heat. Puzzles in the field of dynamics are explained by exhibits called Race of the Rollers and Gyroscopic Effect.
The exhibition also includes several stations for interactive games that develop motor coordination and patience and manual skills. The exhibition also includes objects that teach physics about acoustics and magnetism.
