Starting April 10, 2012, the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola will host a remarkable nature exhibition titled “Seabirds and the Land of Ice.” This unique display features rare bird species and an unconventional layout that immerses visitors in various ecosystems.
Over 300 specimens of different bird species will be showcased, including penguins such as the Peruvian and Cape varieties, hawks, guillemots, emus, crested cormorants, gulls, and herons. These birds are arranged in characteristic poses that reflect their natural habitats. Notably, the exhibition also includes three mammals: a wolverine, a stoat, and a wolf. A detailed list of the birds and their habitats can be found on the museum’s website.
The exhibition is set in a new gallery located within an industrial hall featuring distinctive skylights. This space has been transformed to recreate environments such as tundra, Antarctica, coastal regions from various continents, and the Arctic. Visitors will first discover the world of penguins in Antarctica, then admire diverse seabirds from the coastlines of Australia, Asia, and both North and South America, culminating in the mountainous Arctic landscape. The presentation of nature in these frigid regions includes different types of tundra, from grassy tundra to forest-tundra.
Each section of the exhibition is richly presented, with wallpaper backgrounds accurately depicting various climatic zones on Earth. Complementing these visuals are arrangements of mountains, ice hills, sandy and gravelly shorelines, as well as natural trees, shrubs, and grasses native to the tundra. The experience is enhanced by lighting effects and slides of unique photographs from Antarctica, along with natural sounds from different areas of the exhibition. To deepen understanding, a nature documentary showcasing penguin life will be presented, along with displays highlighting interesting anatomical features of birds.
The exhibition is accessible for both organized groups and individual visitors, with comfortable seating arranged throughout the space. An extensive educational program accompanies the exhibit, featuring guides with photographs and descriptions of the birds, as well as museum lessons and workshops. Organized groups can take advantage of an educational room where workshops and lessons will be conducted by qualified museum staff experienced in educational programs. Children will have the opportunity to create penguins from paper or salt dough during these workshops. Detailed information about the educational offerings will be available on the Regional Museum’s website under the education section.
Everyone interested is invited to embark on an unforgettable journey with birds across different continents starting April 10, 2012. For safety and comfort, visitor groups will be limited to 15 people.
