The success of the “Polska Folk” exhibition in Belfast!
After a highly successful presentation at Tent London (September 2009), the “Polska Folk” exhibition prepared by the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola will open the Polish Culture Week in Belfast on May 6. The events are part of the POLSKA!YEAR series of programs, a celebration of the Polish year in the UK. “Polska FOLK” is a presentation of the influence of folk motifs and techniques on contemporary Polish design, decorative arts and architecture. It is an attempt to synthesize, summarize and gather in one time and place works inspired by folk arts and crafts – form, matter, technical solutions or finally poetics. Traditional patterns of Polish decorative art give our design a unique character, while materials and local craftsmanship speak volumes about our tradition and origin. They make Polish design have a clear identity and meaning, while remaining in the mainstream of European design, as evidenced by international awards for Polish designers. The exhibition features industrially manufactured products, as well as rarities and prototypes, projects waiting to be discovered and well-known “hits” of Polish design. These include works by: Joanna Rusin, Aze Design, Agnieszka Lasota, Chrum, GOGO, Karina Marusinska, Poor Design. Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka is the curator of the exhibition. The Stalowa Wola exhibition is shown at PS2GALLERY at 18 Dongegall Street, Belfast (Belfast BT1 2GP). This is not the end of the international tour of this exhibition. The next place for its presentation, in an expanded version, will be Berlin – already in June this year.
The “Polska FOLK” exhibition was organized thanks to the efforts of the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw.
POLSKA! YEAR is more than 200 events promoting Polish culture in the British Isles from spring 2009 to spring 2010.
The main organizer of the Polish Year is the Adam Mickiewicz Institute
