The 1970s and 1980s saw the rapid development of Stalowa Wola, which further accelerated the transformation of the city’s landscape. In 1988, Adam Krzykwa, a photographer from Stalowa Wola, immortalised on his film places that today are in vain. In Krzykwa’s lens, Stalowa Wola amazes and moves. It is a true journey in time and a poetic story about passing, but also about the emergence of a new order. In an interesting and at the same time natural way, the artist-photographer juxtaposes the past with the present, tradition with progress, destruction with novelty. It is a record of a world that will never return. Thanks to Adam Krzykwa’s photographs, we can peep into the life of the city at the end of the 1980s in an unobvious and original way. The exhibition consists of more than 50 photographs by Adam Krzykwa. The artist’s photographic story is supplemented by photographs from the archives of the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.

Stalowa Wola, an industrial town whose origins are closely linked to the construction of the Central Industrial District and Southern Works in 1937, was founded on the land of the village of Pławo on the banks of the river. Even today its few relics can be found walking down Poniatowskiego Street or Wałowa Street in our town. Older citizens of Stalowa Wola still remember well the Pławo cottages and homesteads and recall its former inhabitants. The exhibition presents relics of the former village of Pławo, today’s settlement of Stalowa Wola.
