Kresy moje, utterly lost. From the memories of the inhabitants of Stalowa Wola

The exhibition, divided into several parts , tells the story of daily life in the Borderlands on the eve of the outbreak of World War II. It is a little-known picture of these lands, filled with positive thinking, the hope of Poles for a better future, the reconstruction and development of the country after the times of slavery and struggles for independence, with simultaneous concern for the Fatherland. But it is also an ordinary story, devoid of pathos, about family and neighborhood life in multicultural villages, towns and cities.

The outbreak of World War II completely changed the lives of the Kresovians to date, so great loss is an integral part of their memories, to which one part of the exhibition is devoted. Often these are painful and dramatic experiences that no one has written down, and many times they could become the plot of movie scripts.

The exhibition closes with the theme of the personal experience of the Borderlands, which will be different for every Pole. For some, it is a homeland, for others it is a tourist area, and for still others it is a completely unknown space. Here, too, in this part of the exhibition, Stalowa Wola residents known in Stalowa Wola for their efforts to restore the memory of the Borderlands have been given a voice. Museum paintings, sacred, applied and commemorative art, and iconography provided by Polish museums and archives are the background for the memories.

My life in the Borderlands

(elementary school, high school)

Meeting with Danuta Kaplonska, a Kresowian, who will talk about the fate of her family and life in the Borderlands. The memories of the guest, a witness to history, will be told against the background of historical events in the years 1917-1945 that affected the Polish population living in the Borderlands.

Who are you?

(kindergartens, grades I-III primary schools)

Poles in the Borderlands were constantly accompanied by ideas of patriotism and Homeland, which were passed from generation to generation through songs, legends and stories, were part of upbringing. During the classes we will introduce the youngest participants to the shape of the map of Poland and its changes. In the practical part, children will make a colorful map of our Homeland in historical and contemporary terms.

Coats of arms of borderland towns

(preschools, grades I-III primary schools)

During the workshop children will learn about the beautiful coats of arms of the great borderland cities, find out what the elements on them mean, what stories they tell. In the practical part they will make one of the coats of arms in the chosen art technique.

Secrets of sacred images

(grades VI-VIII primary schools, secondary schools)

Orthodoxy is an integral part of the multicultural Borderlands. Traditions and especially sacred art are an interesting and inspiring expression of it. During the class we will introduce the secrets of the creation of icons, the principles of their writing and their meaning. Participants of the classes will undertake independent work by making an icon with a selected sacred motif on a board.

Embroidery, embroidery

(grades VI-VIII primary schools, secondary schools)

Years ago, in many Polish homes, one could see doodles hanging on the walls, beautiful runners lying on tables or colorful scones. And all handmade, often passed down from generation to generation. Such souvenirs were also brought with them by Kresovians who found a new home in Stalowa Wola. Following this ancient tradition, we propose to make embroidery or embroidery with your own hands.

Classes can be held from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The duration of the meetings is not rigidly defined: from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.
