Jan Kiepura and Marta Eggerth
14 September – 19 December 2008
The exhibition, prepared by the Sosnowiec Museum, presents the figure of Jan Kiepura (1902-1966)
It highlights many biographical threads from the artist’s private life, such as the period of his earliest years spent in his family home in Sosnowiec, his stay at school and later in the army. Also presented at the exhibition is the first significant opinion on the possibility of voice from 1920, issued by Professor Wacław Brzeziński. The rest of the photographs are documentation of his fabulous career, proving the diversity of his artistic creations and constant creative search.
The exhibition also shows Kiepura’s marriage to Marta Eggerth, an outstanding opera singer, with whom he also shared professional ties. They starred together in the films ‘My Heart Calls for You’, ‘The Merry Widow’, ‘The Princess of czardas’ and ‘Zdobyć Cię muszę’. The final thematic strand consists of photographs and documents relating to the funeral ceremony in 1966.
