Invisible Barriers
Date: 27.09-11.11.2014, 17 Hutnicza St.

This is an interactive journey into the invisible world, so that each visitor can see how to cope with everyday situations, in public space without the help of sight, using only other senses – hearing, smell, balance. In a new situation, the visitor can learn not only about the difficulties blind people face when going outside their place of residence.
The exhibition, developed and prepared by the blind
and visually impaired will present fragments of real objects “transferred” from urban space and placed in a darkened interior.
In this new situation, the sighted viewer will be forced to perceive through tactile perception to see “familiar” objects up close
and to redefine them. There will be a variety of obstacles along the path of the tour: a road sign in the middle of the sidewalk, a bicycle “parked” on the narrow sidewalk that stands right next to the door leading to the store, stumbling blocks on the sidewalks, stairs leading to a public building without signage, etc. Before entering the exhibition, visitors will receive a short training on spatial orientation in the area, learn how to guide a blind person. The exhibition is intended to highlight the difficulties and sensitize the problems faced by blind and visually impaired people going beyond their place of residence into public space. Visitors entering the exhibition will have to find themselves in a new, incomprehensible situation and, in part, feel like a blind or visually impaired person.
The tour will be accompanied by a blind guide.
Curators of the exhibition: Iwona Pityńska, Dr. Edyta Lisek-Lubaś
Exhibition realized within the framework of the KOD ARCHITECTURE project, presented during the 2nd Design Days in Stalowa Wola.
