For nearly a decade, Polish illustration has been in a period of great flourishing. We observe this especially in the children’s book market. Many talented artists and their diversity and ingenuity supported by the courage of publishers mean that we have more and more exceptional books to choose from.
We know that reading to children is important. But are we aware that the image accompanying the text is equally powerful? And the illustrator, the book’s graphic designer, is a creator equal to the author of the text?
The exhibition presents the works of 14 illustrators and graphic designers. Among them are those already recognized in Poland and abroad, winners of national and international awards. There are also those in whom we see potential and hope for their further development. However, each of them treats the child as a partner, as a sensitive reader of their visual language. Each of them tells a story with a picture. Thanks to them, books are created, which are children’s first contact with art.
Consisting of three parts, the exhibition is designed to engage the youngest viewers, to stimulate their creativity so that they feel like artists themselves. In the first part, children will learn what illustration is and have the opportunity to test themselves as illustrators. In the second- they will enter the world of the book, where Illustrations become the setting of an interactive maze. The third part is a large reading room, where we meet eye to eye with illustrators and their works. Children visiting the exhibition will be able to use a creative activity booklet to consolidate their knowledge of illustration and discover the hidden secrets of the exhibition.
