Exhibition “Let’s bee friends, or make friends with bees”

Wystawa „Let’s bee friends, czyli zaprzyjaźnij się z pszczołami”

09.06 – 24.09.2017, 14 Staszica Street,

“Let’s bee friends, or make friends with bees”.

The origins of the shared history of man and bees fade into the depths of prehistory. These little creatures, although studied and described for centuries, still seem to be mysterious wonders of nature. They live in a hierarchical group, are able to encode information in a dance, and above all guarantee the survival of many species living on earth, not excluding humans.

What do we actually know about bees? What is their cooperation with man like? These industrious creatures, invariably performing their tasks for thousands of years, share their valuable products with us and, above all, are an important link in the vegetation process of the plants we eat every day. What kind of partners are we in this relationship, then, if through our actions our allies perish? What can we do to stop this process? What else can bees do – are they just honey-making machines?

The answers to these questions appear in the exhibition “Let’s bee friends, or make friends with bees”. On it we tell not only what bees do and what the work of a beekeeper is like, or how to protect them, but we also show how these insects inspire designers and architects. In the educational module, based on the book “Bees” by Two Sisters Publishing House, we present contemporary beehives, beekeeper’s attire and tools, as well as jewelry, everyday objects and architecture, drawing inspiration from the life of bees. You can also see locally rooted products using honey on the one hand, and a collection, often exotic and unusual for us, of honeys from around the world, as well as valuable bee products on the other. We present initiatives that draw attention to the protection of bees, such as a beehive available under a free license to cut out and assemble yourself. The exhibition is also a valuable source of information on how to care for bees and how to make our garden friendly to them. The section showing the use of the honeycomb structure is enriched by numerous examples of its use in architecture, furniture, but also in the lighting industry or in the production of sports equipment.
