Christian symbols

From July 26, the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola will host a new temporary exhibition binding two uncommon artists in its space. Mikuláš Jacečko and Mariusz Bajek represent different fields of art, but they share a common theme and friendship. As the title of the exhibition indicates, it is Christian symbols that both have made the subject of their work. Both artists already have a huge body of work and a permanent place in the art world. Both Mikuláš Jacečko and Mariusz Bajek are artists who have received numerous awards for their artistic work, published albums or numerous solo exhibitions, also presented in Stalowa Wola.

Mikuláš Jacečko, a Slovak photographer and museologist, captured with the lens of his camera clippings of nature together with traces of human activity found there, especially fragments of small and large architecture being motifs directly from Christian culture. Mariusz Bajek is a native artist, who this time will allow himself to be known as the author of drawings and sketches depicting, among other things, roadside shrines emerging from among the trees, often hidden away from frequented routes. Shrines, churches and roadside crosses surrounded by nature, mainly in the mountains, are the leading subjects of the upcoming exhibition.

The juxtaposition of two different media – photography and drawing – will allow us to discover two different perspectives on the same subject. Through an interesting confrontation of drawing, which operates with a line, and photography, in which light is extremely important, we will experience the unique sensitivity with which both artists depict the natural world and the symbolic world of Christian faith motifs.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on July 26 at 6:30 pm at the Regional Museum, 1 Sandomierska Street, and will run through August 18.
