The exhibition was organized as part of the 2010 Chopin Year celebrations.

The shopeniana on display, including paintings, prints, plaques, medals depicting Fryderyk Chopin, letters and autographs, as well as a cast of the pianist’s hand, come from the Lviv Art Gallery, the Lviv Historical Museum and the XX Czartoryski Foundation in Krakow.

The exhibition will feature unique collections from the Czartoryski Library, including the original orchestral score from 1829. – Rondo à la Krakowiak. as well as Chopin’s entry in the book of visitors to the ailing Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski. Among the oil paintings is a portrait of Marcelina Czartoryska, Frederick’s friend and pupil, painted by Jan Matejko. Among the curiosities are Chopin’s death mask and a 19th century vase, which, according to tradition, was given to Chopin by Marie Amelia, wife of King Louis Philippe of France.

The Lviv collection is represented, among other things, by a sizable painting by Jozef Krzesz-Mecina depicting an allegorical representation of the genius’ last moments in life.

Visitors can use the music room, equipped with seating and playback equipment, where they can listen to Chopin’s music. Among the pieces will be more than 30 popular mazurkas, polonaises or waltzes. All the exhibition rooms will be filled with the master’s music. The hall will also feature two documentary films devoted to Chopin’s life and work. During the exhibition there will be music and art workshops for young people, conducted by the Stalowa Wola-based artist Jakub Wojnarowski. Modern and multimedia exhibition allows the viewer to get acquainted with the biography of the great composer, to get to know his work, as well as the environment in which he lived and worked in different places and periods of his life.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog presenting all the major shopeniana from the collections of the XX Czartoryski Foundation once the Lviv collections.

ChopinART – Exhibition on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Fryderyk Chopin

Anna Król, art historian, museologist; deals with 19th and 20th century art, author of many catalogs and issue exhibitions. She teaches at the State Higher School of Theater in Cracow, curator at the manggha Center for Japanese Art and Technology in Cracow. She has been working with the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola for many years.

Olha Perełyhina, historian, head of the collections department at the Lviv Historical Museum, author of scholarly publications, including on the Lviv Chopin collection.
