Birth of Stalowa Wola 1938

Birth of Stalowa Wola 1938

Permanent exhibition of interiors in the art déco style in the premises of the Hutnik Hotel, 12 Prymas Wyszyński St.

from 19.05.2007 The exposition introduces the climate of the time when Stalowa Wola was established. It consists of several interiors arranged in the style of the interwar years, presenting the furnishings of a kitchen, living room, bedroom, hallway in a Stalowa Wola apartment, as well as an official’s office. They are dominated by simple, functional furniture with a geometric form. The exhibition is complemented by a collection of art déco style glassware.

The origin of some of the furniture could be known thanks to the preserved paper labels of the manufacturer, for example, on the elements of the checkroom there is a preserved card with the name of the Lviv-based factory Mebelki i Lampy Nowoczesne M. Sack.

Interesting design and interesting manufacturing technique are presented by kilims, which played a special role in the decoration of the interiors of that time.

The presented furnishings are complemented by glass, ceramic, metal objects and even trinkets – boxes of cookies and trinkets from the 1920s and 1930s. They are mostly the products of Polish, German and Czech glass factories, ceramic factories and carpenter’s workshops. Not missing from the exhibition are cigar cases, which were fashionable in the 1930s, as well as platters, sugar bowls and candlesticks.

An ornament of the living room is a glass chandelier from an Italian factory in Murano.

An interesting curiosity on display in the “kitchen” room is a set of glass milk and cream bottles from the interwar period, from the Lubomirski, Radziwill and Sanguszko dairies.

The faience and porcelain on display come from, among others, the factories in Pacykow and Ćmielów, which commissioned designs of new patterns from Zofia Stryjeńska or Bogdan Wendorf. Phenomenon of art déco are glass flacons, jardinieres, toiletry sets, produced by Polish glassworks: Niemen, Zawiercie, Hortensja.

A special complement to the exhibition are watercolors with views of Stalowa Wola, painted by Eng. Bronislaw Chudzyński – construction manager of the Southern Works, as well as photographs of the city’s pre-war buildings.

The exposition was prepared on the basis of own collections. Despite the considerable number of collected objects, it presents only selected issues of artistic production of the interwar period.
