Ćmielów Design Studio is a design studio of Polskie Fabryki Porcelany “Ćmielów” i “Chodzież” S.A., created in 2013. The artistic director of ĆDS is Marek Cecuła, an internationally recognized ceramic artist and designer. In the activities of Ćmielów Design Studio, the role of the designer in the process of creating an industrial product is crucial.

In its work, the studio combines the touch of the human hand with innovative methods and technology. The Studio’s space hosts numerous projects in the fields of education, art and business, as well as undertaking collaborations with designers from around the world as part of a residency program.

The Art, Industry, Craft exhibition will present the Ćmielów Design Studio through the prism of both art and industry. The exhibition will include objects from the “Gloria Dot” porcelain collection of the “Chodzież” brand, as interpreted by Marek Cecula. The “Gloria Dot” collection is an artistic interpretation of the classic design of the ćmiel porcelain. Over the centuries, porcelain factories have created new services, which are still present on the market today. Often these are services with rich gold decoration. This is a characteristic feature of the porcelain industry: the production of dishes that are classic in form, which over time become symbols of brand values. The “Gloria Dot” service is an attempt to translate this traditional aesthetic language into a contemporary one, with minimal designer intervention. It is a family of porcelain objects, united by the common idea of strong, graphic decoration.

Other values will be presented by objects from the New Atelier and Touch of Blue collections, which represent the industrial aspect of the Ćmielów Design Studio’s activities – the collections are available in the daily sales of Ćmielów stores. The strong position of these objects and at the same time market products is confirmed by awards and distinctions. These two collections from the ĆDS line, New Atelier and Touch of Blue, were recognized in this year’s (2013) Must Have competition, organized by the Łódź Design Festival. The “New Atelier” service was also inducted into the collection of the Design Center of the National Museum in Warsaw.

Awarded in the “must have” poll, Ćmielów Design Studio’s latest collections “New Atelier” and “Touch of Blue” show how industrial design can respond to these needs in the simplest way. The modern collections, which were created at one of the oldest porcelain factories in the country – Polskie Fabryki Porcelany “Ćmielów” i “Chodzież” S.A., are in fact a design reactivation of historic Ćmielów and Chodzież designs.

The idea of the “New Atelier” collection, which is about to enter the market, allows for individual composition of the service. Thanks to this, everyone will be able to adjust the collection not only to his or her taste (“Mix and Match” designs, which can be freely combined with each other), but also to the number of people in the family. Thanks to Ćmielów Design Studio’s idea, single, double and multi-person services will be available on the market.

With only one collection, Ćmielów Design Studio is able to realize the most important principles of social design, where the ordinary consumer receives a high-end design product, signed with the historic Ćmielów sign and the name of the internationally recognized ceramic artist and designer, the studio’s artistic director, Marek Cecuła. The uniqueness of this service is confirmed by the inclusion of “New Atelier” in the collection of the Design Center of the National Museum in Warsaw.
