A primer on Polish design in Vienna
28.09-07.10.2018,
Vienna, Sophienspital, the main festival space of Vienna Design Week
Curator: Ewa Solarz
The exhibition showcases the best of Polish design – from furniture, glass and porcelain to written texts, logos, children’s toys, sports equipment and even candy. Contemporary designs will be displayed alongside classics, one-of-a-kind objects and works of art, prototypes and affectionately remembered articles from the last century.
As a commentary on these design icons, the exhibition will also feature visual interpretations by 25 selected contemporary Polish illustrators and graphic designers. The exhibition is organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the Poland Design program promoting Polish design around the world, and is part of an international cultural program accompanying the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence – the INDEPENDENCE Program.
The goal of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, a state cultural institution operating under the Culture.pl brand, is to promote Poland and Polish culture abroad. By presenting high-quality initiatives and events in the fields of art, music and design, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute seeks to bring contemporary Polish culture closer to foreign audiences.
The exhibition is co-organized by the Gdynia Design Center and the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.
