8th exhibition of the collection of the Malopolska Foundation of the Museum of Contemporary Art

May 27 – June 26, 2011

exhibition curator: Jan Trzupek

The eighth exhibition of works from the collection of the Malopolska Foundation of the Museum of Contemporary Art presents the work of thirty prominent Polish contemporary artists.

The Małopolska collection of 21st century art includes paintings, spatial objects, sculptures, photographs, drawings and video works by such authors as Wilhelm Sasnal, Jadwiga Sawicka, Paweł Althamer, Rafał Bujnowski, Marek Chlanda, Zbigniew Libera, Marcin Maciejowski, Jarosław Modzelewski, Łukasz Skąpski, Monika Sosnowska and Grzegorz Sztwiertnia. One of the tasks set by the foundation’s chapter is to present new Polish art in a Central European context, so the collection also includes works by artists from other countries in our region, including David Maljkovic, Denis Lehock and Krištof Kintera. The next presentation is not a repetition of previous exhibitions; each has a separate character and shows new aspects of the developing collection. The collection presents a mix of references and different attitudes towards tradition and questions about modernity existing in Polish contemporary art.

The collection of the Malopolska Foundation for Contemporary Art was created in 2004 in response to the ministerial cultural program “Signs of the Times.” Its goal was to catch up with the collection of contemporary art, as well as to promote and disseminate it, and to educate widely. Since 2005, the collection of contemporary art has grown consistently according to the assumptions made at the beginning of its creation. The collection is regularly shown in various places in Poland, as well as abroad. Still open, the collection has already grown to a significant size (over 400 works by nearly 50 authors).
