This is where my house stood. Project for Plaw
Here stood my house. Project for Plaw is a catalog to the exhibition of the same title. It contains a valuable collection of archival photographs and memories of Plawo residents, who for the first time speak openly about their village and its former inhabitants. Their voice is of even greater value, since the village of Plawo no longer exists, and our city of Stalowa Wola was founded on its land.
About this village was loud… In the 1930s, during the construction of the CID, Pławo became the subject of observation and insightful analysis of pre-war reporters, with the father of Polish reportage – Melchior Wańkowicz at the head. The image of the village and its inhabitants presented at that time became so firmly fixed in the imagination of the region’s inhabitants that many stereotypes are repeated to this day. The exhibition Here Stood My Home. A Project for Plawa, in opposition to the pre-war press, presented a village that no longer exists today, based on memories, salvaged photographic material, documents and family heirlooms. The catalog contains dozens of excerpts from interviews with commentary, recollections and photographs of Plawians, which allow a wider audience to get to know PLAWO UNKNOWN.
