Stalowa Wola city of the past - the future of the city. Legacy of industrial architecture
The publication is a collection of articles edited by Elżbieta Przesmycka, which were created as a result of a scientific conference organized by the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola in 2015.
From a scientific review by Prof. Dr. hab. inż. arch. Andrzej Białkiewicz:
Cities such as Stalowa Wola, once alive with industry and all the problems associated with its functioning, are now sometimes stripped of their former significance. What is left is a stock of abandoned post-industrial buildings, unnecessary for production, unused, sometimes haunted by emptiness and oblivion. Therefore, this publication is an excellent study containing the author’s statements relating both to this urban-architectural heritage, the contemporary image of urban spaces, and the possibility of further creation within the framework of modernist Stalowa Wola, together with the region, as a valuable relic of interwar industrialization of Poland. (…)
A great advantage of this publication is the iconographic material contained in it. Numerous photographs complement the content, constituting an important element of the study.
It is worth adding at this point that any undertaking aimed at protecting, using and restoring the resources of post-industrial buildings, original and valuable, one of a kind, deserves to be recognized and widely disseminated.
