Jakub Woynarowski. Novus Ordo Seclorum / New Order of the Ages
The project of Jakub Woynarowski, carried out for nearly a decade, entitled “Novus Ordo Seclorum/New Order of the Ages” – according to the ancient poet Virgil, has lived to see its summary in the form of a catalog-album.
The publication includes, among others, the works of the artist, exhibited within the framework of the author’s exhibition at the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola. Presented on the pages of the book is a series of graphics and photographs devoted to the relationship between the achievements of the artistic avant-garde of the twentieth century and phenomena from the area of ancient art.
The axis of the digressive and non-linear narrative on the “archeology of the avant-garde” is a constantly expanding map of investigation – a multi-element compilation of collages, photomontages and diagrams. The metaphor that organizes this paranormal visual atlas is the hallucinatory vision of a French garden, which is also a labyrinthine gallery of abstract spatial forms, created – despite their formal similarity – in distant historical eras: from Neoplatonic perspective studies, through cosmological models, to examples of modernist architecture.
This visual tale of art is framed by an elegant cover of black canvas with embossing and white print, which harmonizes compositionally with the monochromatic interior of the publication.
The album is accompanied by an introduction by the author, in Polish and English.
