In the air, on land and sea, Jakub Woynarowski
“In the air, on land and sea” is a jubilee publication on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the CID. The idea for this publication arose already five years ago, on the occasion of the presentation by the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola of an exhibition of graphics by Jakub Woynarowski.
This artist, who hails from Stalowa Wola, captures the history of his hometown in an innovative way. The series of 45 paintings creates a peculiar comic book and leads from the beginnings, i.e. the Sandomierz Forest, through the construction of the factory and settlement, until the outbreak of World War II. There is no shortage of motifs peculiar to Stalowa Wola, such as the characteristic fences, modernist architecture and all-embracing greenery. The author also refers here to the concept of the “garden city,” a new trend in urban planning propagated in the interwar period.
The unusual artistic vision takes a closer look at the construction of the new city, which grew up at the unusual time of the formation of the Central Industrial District.
The strength of the publication is its minimalism and subtlety. The elegant white cover with a diamond-shaped opening through which a section of green lining is visible, and a series of graphics kept in just three colors: green, black and white, form a beautiful, cohesive whole. This is a book to look at. The author does not impose his interpretation on the viewer, but leaves it to the experience and sensitivity of the reader.
