Historical guide for children and teenagers
Publishing prepared on the occasion of celebrated anniversaries of the creation of the Central Industrial District, Stalowa Wola and the Southern Works, with a view to the youngest residents of our city.
This historical guide is intended primarily for children and teenagers, but its open-ended formula means that anyone – ranging in age from 5 to 105 – can read it and is sure to learn something of interest from it.
The young heroes of the book make a virtual journey through the places associated with CID, visiting the towns where modern factories were built in the 1930s and learning lots of interesting facts about them. In the second part, a group of friends go on a tour of Stalowa Wola, in search of historical traces. Tracking them down, they gain knowledge about old times and people, discover unknown places, learning about the history of their “small homeland” and… having fun in the process.
The book is not limited to the presentation of knowledge about the region, you can find in it a lot of information on history, ethnography or archaeology, as it also tells about the Sandomierska Forest, Lasowiak people, the history of the village of Plawo, or how the steel mill works, so its educational value is much more universal.
The author of the text is Marek Wiatrowicz, while the graphic design, closely related to the topic, was prepared by Katarzyna Bogucka, one of the best Polish illustrators of not only children’s publications.
Thus, the book can be an interesting proposal for young readers to spend their free time, giving them a chance to expand their knowledge of the region.
The publication is a continuation of the museum’s project Welcome to Stalowa Wola, which began with the publication of the “Economic Guide for Children”, familiarizing young readers with the history of money, types of means of payment and explaining the complexities of economic concepts in an accessible way.
