An illustrated primer of Polish design
100 years of Polish design, 100 designs, 100 extraordinary stories, 100 illustrations. The younger reader will discover what the world of his parents and grandparents looked like, who came up with the idea for the Bird’s Milk and when the Omega yacht was designed, what has stood the test of time and accompanies us to this day, and what is now only in museums. Adult readers will find memories of their youth in this book: relaxing in line, the smell of the Pewex store, private parties with a bambino gramophone and trips on a Wigry bicycle. We will all learn what interesting Polish designers are offering today. Among the presented projects, in addition to furniture, glass or porcelain, i.e. objects commonly associated with design, there are less obvious things: typefaces, logos, children’s toys. Presented are both contemporary designs and those that have managed to become classics. Uniques, verging on individual works of art; prototypes that never entered mass production; but also very popular things that Poles have been using on a daily basis for the last 100 years. In the book, the past merges with the present, showing the achievements of Polish design through the achievements of contemporary Polish graphic design. 100 works by Polish designers are interpreted by 25 Polish illustrators, experienced masters of the Polish school of illustration, illustrators of the young and middle generation winning awards around the world today and quite young ones who have just graduated.
