Sibyl 2017

Sibyl 2017

The Stalowa Wola museum has once again received the highly prestigious Sibyl Award, given in the Museum Event of the Year competition. This is the most important form of recognition of achievements in Polish museology. The statuette was awarded to the exhibition “CID and the City. Modernity and Heritage.”

The gala ceremony took place on May 21 at the National Museum in Warsaw, and the Sybil 2017 awards were presented by Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Gliński. In this year’s edition, several hundred museums from all over Poland submitted their projects to the competition. In 11 categories, the jury awarded 10 prizes, 26 honorable mentions and the Grand Prix.
The “CID and the City” exhibition, awarded the Sibyl statuette in the category of natural and technical exhibitions, showed how the construction of CID relates to today’s world, how great industry and technical solutions influenced the standard of living of the population 80 years ago, and can it be linked to the fact that today in the rankings of the quality of life in Polish cities and the so-called smart city, Rzeszów appears in the lead, Kielce – the city of CID – also ranks high? Can Stalowa Wola be described as a smart city of the interwar era, and in what respects? The curator of the exhibition is Katarzyna Zarzycka.
Recall: the “Sibylla” Competition for the Museum Event of the Year is organized by the National Institute of Museology and Collections Protection, and its purpose is to select the most outstanding achievements in the sphere of museum activities. Distinction in the competition is one of the highest forms of recognition of achievements in Polish museology. The jury of the competition is composed of prominent representatives of the world of science and culture, appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
