Stalowa Wola Museum on the 15th anniversary of its activity for the 15th time among the winners of “Sybil”

The museum in its 15 years of activity has already been recognized 14 times by the jury of the prestigious competition “Museum Event of the Year – Sibylla” organized by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The fifteenth award is a distinction received just these days in this competition, known as the “Museum Oscar.”
Every year several hundred Polish museums compete for the “Sybil,” judged in 11 categories. In addition to several fields of exhibition, these include scientific, educational, investment and other undertakings. Each museum can submit its achievements in four different competition categories. The entries are evaluated by a nine-member jury, composed of experts in various fields (art history, history, pedagogy, cultural animation). In each category, a prize and two honorable mentions are awarded, in addition to which one of all entries receives a grand prix.
The ceremonial gala of the XXXIV edition of the competition, which evaluated the achievements of museums in 2013, took place on May 14, 2014 at the King John III Palace Museum in Wilanow, as part of the celebration of International Museum Day.

The Stalowa Wola Museum was among the winners in the “education” category. Stalowa Wola’s E-GROSIK program was evaluated as one of the three best educational programs in Poland. A DIDACTIC PUBLICATION FOR CHILDREN INTEGRATED WITH ANIMATION AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES. The jury awarded a distinction to the Stalowa Wola Museum, while the award in this category went to the National Museum in Poznan, and the second distinction went to the Jagiellonian University Museum.

The E-GROSIK program, aimed at children aged 6-12, expands the offer of after-school education in the field of economics and the history of money, and tackles a niche and difficult subject rarely undertaken by museums.
It consists of three components: the didactic publication “E-grosik. Economic mini-guide for children,” an interactive educational animation entitled ‘E-grosik’ on a touch screen, and museum activities (workshops, lessons) on economic topics.
Through the program, children gained elementary knowledge of economic topics. The use of interesting rebuses, crosswords, quizzes, in the didactic publication and animation, as well as in the classes was teaching economics through play, encouraged the youngest to ask questions and seek answers to them, explained complex economic processes. At the same time, the program took into account and brought closer important issues concerning the history of the founding of the city of Stalowa Wola, and the exhibition “CID for the Future”, on the basis of which the program was implemented, became a place for organizing widely understood activities popularizing both economic and historical knowledge. Using a modern visual form, it was possible to expand the extracurricular educational offer in the field of economics, adapted to the perception of children aged 6-12, which entered the permanent educational proposal of the Museum.

The idea and substantive side of the project are the work of the Museum’s staff: director Lucyna Mizera, Elżbieta Skromak and Marek Wiatrowicz, while the artistic, textual and electronic shape of the individual elements of the program was given by specialists from outside the Museum: Katarzyna Bogucka, Olga Gromek and Ewa Świder-Grobelna. The project was subsidized by the National Bank of Poland.
The high evaluation of teachers participating with their students in the classes, as well as the continued strong interest from schools in the program, contributed to the resumption of the “E-grosik” offer in 2014. The new edition is planned from October to December 2014.
