“Historical Event of the Yearis a plebiscite organized by the Polish History Museum in cooperation with the historia.org.pl portal and the National Library. The exhibition “We built this city” prepared in 2018 by our Museum, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Stalowa found itself in the close group of winners.

The purpose of the competition is to honor the organizers, creators and initiators of the most interesting historical projects of the past year promoting Polish history and culture at home and abroad.

The plebiscite consisted of two stages. In the first stage, the jury, composed of representatives of the organizers and people of science and culture, selects five projects in each of the categories “Exhibition”, “Event” and “Education and multimedia”. The competition committee, consisting of: Gabriela Sierocinska-Dec (Polish History Museum), Alicja Knast (Silesian Museum), Piotr Legutko (TVP Historia), Dr. Tomasz Makowski (National Library), Dr. Marek Mutor (Center for Zajezdnia History in Wroclaw), Prof. Andrzej Szczerski (Jagiellonian University), Wojciech Duch (historia.org.pl) decided which 15 events from several hundred submitted were qualified for the second stage this year. In the “Exhibitions” category, the Stalowa Wola Museum was among the five finalists for its exhibition We Built This City”.The final decision as to which project will win is made in the second stage of the competition by Internet users through a public vote. The presentation of awards and prizes to the finalists took place on June 3, 2019 at the Palace of the Republic in Warsaw.
This is the second award in the history of the Plebiscite for the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola for prepared exhibitions. In 2014, the “Made in Poland” exhibition was also honored at the Historical Event of the Year gala.
