Literary contest “Maria and Witold Habdank-Kossowski - faithful to values”.
We invite students to participate in the literary contest! If you are recharged with energy and hungry for new experiences after the holiday rest, the team of the Alfons Karpinski Painting Gallery has prepared something just for you. Already in September a literary contest will be launched under the slogan “Maria and Witold Habdank-Kossowski – faithful to values”. And this in connection with the establishment by the Stalowa Wola City Council of the year 2024 as the year of Witold Habdank-Kossowski.
The contest is aimed at elementary and high school students from Stalowa Wola and Stalowa Wola County. The task of the participants is to write a story in which the author or the author will refer to the region of the Stalowa Wola district. The work can be related to the present or history, such as tourist attractions or places that are particularly important to the author or author. One of the proposals, indicated by the organizers, is the Kossowskis, a meritorious couple for our city.
– The characters of Maria and Witold Habdank-Kossowski have beautifully written themselves in the history of Stalowa Wola. To this day they are remembered by former students, who remembered them as people with strong moral backbones. We want them to be a kind of intermediary between the younger generation and history and our heritage. I hope that the figure of Vytautas – teacher, educator, legionary and poet – will inspire the young participants of the contest to take a deeper look at the issues of the homeland. I encourage you to participate in the competition, because it is a good way to express yourself and your own way of seeing the world,” says Aneta Garanty, director of the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.
Witold Habdank-Kossowski was the organizer and first director of the State Gymnasium and High School in Stalowa Wola, as well as the organizer of secret teaching during the German occupation.
The Municipal Public Library in Stalowa Wola is providing a regional book collection in its reading room for students preparing for the competition. Older students and teachers of younger students will also be able to attend a lecture by Mr. Mariusz Potasz, director of the KEN I High School in Stalowa Wola, entitled. “Maria and Witold Habdank-Kossowski – faithful to values”. The lecture will still take place in September at the KEN I High School at 5 S. Staszica St. The date will be announced soon on the website and FB profile of the Regional Museum.

REGULATIONS
Literary Contest “Maria and Witold Habdank-Kossowski – faithful to the values”.
I. ORGANIZER OF THE CONTEST
1. the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola, 1 Sandomierska St., 37-450 Stalowa Wola

II. OBJECTIVES OF THE CONTEST
1) To promote literary creativity as a form of artistic expression, a means of interpersonal communication and the art of expressing emotions.
2) Raising language competence and developing literary talents of elementary and high school students residing in Stalowa Wola and on the territory of the Stalowa Wola district.
3. awakening a sense of patriotism and attachment to the Dolnosan region.
4. Dissemination of biographies of significant persons from the Dolnosan region and inspiring patterns of behavior and value systems.
III. ADDRESSEES OF THE CONTEST
The contest is aimed at students of classes IV-VIII of elementary school and students of secondary schools in Stalowa Wola and Stalowa Wola district.
IV. COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS
(1) The contest is held from September 10 to October 31, 2024, the results will be announced on December 17, 2024.
(2) The task of the contest participants is to write a story referring to the characters of Maria and Witold Habdank-Kossowski or other regional themes. The work can be related to the present or history of Stalowa Wola, Stalowa Wola County, Lower Silesia region, such as tourist attractions or places that are particularly important to the author/author.
3. students of classes IV-VIII of elementary schools write a short story (a minimum of 2,000 characters with spaces, maximum volume of text: 12,000 characters with spaces).
4. high school students write a short story (minimum 3,000 characters with spaces, maximum text volume: 15,000 characters with spaces).
5.The work should be saved in PDF or WORD format (uneditable) with editorial standards: font style Times New Roman, font size 12 pt, leading 1.5 lines, standard margins 2.5 cm, text justified.
V. SUBMITTING WORKS
1) The condition for participation in the contest is to send one work of your own authorship, together with a completed application form in the form of a scan to the following e-mail address: konkurs@muzeum.stalowawola.pl by October 31, 2024. NOTE: Successful delivery of the contest work is equivalent to receiving a return e-mail within 3 days from the date of sending the work!
(2) In the case of minors, the contest work along with a completed entry form is sent by a teacher or guardian/parent of the contest participant.
(3) Adults can send the application to the contest themselves or through a teacher.
(4) In order to protect personal data, the competition works should be signed with a pseudonym. The name of the participant is given only in the entry form.
(5) Completion of the application form is tantamount to a statement that you own full copyright and property rights to the stories submitted to the contest. Submission of work to the contest is tantamount to the transfer of copyright and property rights to the organizers.
6.Works submitted without an entry card will not be evaluated.
7. competition works must not have been previously published or awarded in other competitions.
VI. EVALUATION OF WORKS, SETTLEMENT OF THE COMPETITION AND PRIZES
(1) Competition works will be evaluated in three categories:
short story (elementary schools grades IV-V) – places 1-3,
short story (elementary schools grades VI-VIII) – places 1-3,
short story (secondary schools) – places 1-3.
(2) A jury will be appointed to evaluate the compliance of the works with the theme, originality of the approach to the topic, linguistic correctness and literary qualities, as well as overall aesthetics and compliance with editorial standards, as well as the independence of the submitted competition works.
(3) The jury will include representatives of the Subcarpathian Center for Teachers’ Education in Tarnobrzeg, the 1st High School named after the Commission of National Education in Stalowa Wola, the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.
4 The results of the competition will be published by December 17, 2024 on the Organizer’s website. In addition, the winners will be informed by email and/or telephone.
(5) The winners will be informed of the date of the award ceremony by email and/or telephone.
6. in each category winners will receive diplomas and prizes in kind:
1st prize with a minimum value of PLN 500,
II prize with a minimum value of PLN 300,
Third prize of a minimum value of PLN 100.
VII. Copyrights
By submitting an application for participation in the contest, each participant grants a license of author’s economic rights to the contest solution without time and territorial limitations, in the following fields of exploitation:
(a) recording on any audio-visual and audio-visual medium, in particular on: video media, photosensitive tape, magnetic tape, computer disks and all types of media intended for digital recording,
b) reproduction by any technique, including: magnetic technique on video tapes, audiovisual disks, photosensitive and digital recording technique, computer recording technique on all types of media adapted to this form of recording, production of specific technique of copies of works, including printing, reprography, magnetic recording and digital technique,
c) circulation of the original or copies on which the work has been fixed – introduction of multiplied carriers into circulation in the country and abroad, lending the original or copies,
d) dissemination of the work in a manner other than specified in letters a) – c) – public performance, exhibition, display, as well as making the work available to the public in such a way that everyone can have access to it at a place and time of their own choosing, including, in particular, making it available on the Internet,
e) introduction into computer memory and into a multimedia network in an unlimited number of broadcasts and volume of circulation,
f) use in multimedia works,
(g) marketing by means of the Internet and other data transmission techniques using telecommunications, computer and wireless networks,
h) use of the work and parts thereof for promotional and advertising purposes,
i) use for marketing purposes, including advertising, promotion of identification, products and services, and other manifestations of business activity.
(2) In addition, the participant authorizes the organizer, without additional compensation, to exercise subsidiary rights to the work, to the extent justified by the use of the work in the above fields of exploitation, including modification of the work, combining it with other works, transferring it to other entities for the purpose of modification.
VIII. FINAL PROVISIONS
(1) The decisions of the jury are irrevocable and non-appealable.
(2) Works submitted to the competition will not be returned.
(3) The organizers reserve the right to change the deadlines if circumstances require it.
(4) Participation in the contest is tantamount to acceptance of the rules.
