Fashionable in art déco style
Art déco is a style that moved from the world of art to many areas of life: fashion, crafts, architecture, interior design. Our exhibition will take you back to the art déco world of the interwar 20s. You will see luxurious dresses and various accessories, including handbags, fans and perfume bottles. We will also introduce you to an important aspect of the social changes taking place at the time, an integral part of which was the struggle of women for a place in social and political life.
LESSONS

What is art déco?
During the lesson at the exhibition, the youngest will learn about the term art déco and try to identify its typical elements on the example of objects from the exhibition. We will talk about the fact that it is not just fashion, but part of the dynamically changing world, even a symbol of these changes.
class IV-VIII, secondary schools, adults
Fashion passes, style remains
Fashion is one of the most dynamic aspects of culture, brought about by technological, economic and political progress. An outfit is not only a garment, but also a symbol of social status, gender or religion. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, fashion evolved significantly, moving from functionality to an expression of individuality and identity.
During the tour of the exhibition, we will learn, among other things, how the emancipation movements were an important factor in the change of clothing, and we will characterize costumes, including accessories and accessories in the art déco style. Based on archival photographs, we will also consider whether in the clothing of residents of Stalowa Wola, a leading city of CID, we will find a style characteristic of the fashion of the late 1930s.

Fashionable in art déco style
We cordially invite all those interested in deepening their knowledge of art déco fashion. The exhibition will present primarily objects of artistic craftsmanship: dresses, headdresses, perfume bottles and others.
Guided tours conducted at the exhibition will serve to familiarize visitors with individual objects and develop their sensitivity to modern interwar fashion.
In addition, the Alphonse Karpinski Gallery will host stationary lectures titled History of Women’s Fashion of the 19th/20th Century, serving to present the developmental path that led to art déco and to understand the changes in fashion in the first half of the 20th century.
WORKSHOPS
kindergartens, grades I-III
Become a fashion designer
Making their own designs gives children great satisfaction and builds self-esteem. During our workshop we will talk about the profession of a fashion designer, what he does, what skills he should have and who can become one. In the next part, on the already prepared template, we will make our own outfit design in the form of a collage. For this we will use material cuttings, tissue paper, feathers, sequins, etc.

Fan
The inspiring exhibition will culminate with participation in an interesting art workshop, where participants will make a practical souvenir – a fan. Today we focus on its practical function and use it for cooling, but in the interwar period the fan was a decoration and a moving advertisement. A large, single-colored one, made of magnificent ostrich feathers, was, next to a long chain of artificial pearls, an indispensable addition to the toilet of a refined lady.
grades IV-VIII
Danced the needle with the thread
Sewing workshops are a great opportunity to tame the youngest with a needle and thread. During the class, participants will learn different types of stitches, learn how to sew a button or make other decorations. It will also be an opportunity to create their own design of a pencil case, which is an indispensable part of every student’s equipment. There will be no shortage of elements characteristic of art déco.

Jewelry in the art déco style
As a souvenir of the fashion exhibition, we suggest a self-made brooch, which can also be used to create a headband, tie pin or key ring. We will make the bases of the jewelry from epoxy resin. To finish them we will use beads, feathers, glitter in colors characteristic of art déco.
