Fashionable in art déco style
Art déco is a style that moved from the world of art to many areas of life: fashion, crafts, architecture, interior design. Our exhibition will take you to the world of art déco style, i.e. the 20 years between the wars. You will see luxurious dresses and various accessories, including handbags, fans and perfume bottles. We will also zoom in on an important aspect of the social changes taking place at the time, an integral part of which was women’s struggle for a place in social and political life.
Lessons
grades I-III
What is art déco?
During the lesson at the exhibition, the youngest will learn about the term art déco and on the example of objects from the exhibition will try to identify its typical elements. We will talk about the fact that it is not just fashion, but part of the dynamically changing world, even a symbol of these changes.
Workshop
grades I-III
Become a fashion designer
Implementation of their own projects gives children great satisfaction and builds self-esteem. During our workshop we will talk about the profession of a fashion designer, what it is, what skills it should have and who can become one. In the next part, on the already prepared template, we will make our own outfit design in the form of a collage. We will use material cuttings, tissue paper, feathers, sequins, etc.
Fan
The inspiring exhibition will culminate with participation in an interesting art workshop, where participants will make a practical souvenir – a fan. Today we focus on its practical function and use it for cooling, but in the interwar period the fan was a decoration and a moving advertisement. A large, single-colored one, made of magnificent ostrich feathers, was, next to a long chain of artificial pearls, an indispensable addition to the toilet of a refined lady.
