Rozwadów Station. Between Lviv and Krakow
Since April 2016, the permanent exhibition has returned to the attic of the Lubomirski Castle. What does Rozwadów and the Lower Silesia region look like in the new version? What will we see inside? Let’s discover our region anew!
Rozwadów – seemingly a typical Polish town, hides a lot of interesting history and has its own unique, individual character. In the exhibition we recall not only the history of Rozwadów and its inhabitants, but also the history of the surrounding area, the folk culture of the Nadsany region, as well as its prehistory. We show what is typical and what was nowhere else. For the first time, in addition to a variety of exhibits, museum artifacts and archives, we will see the Nadsany region in multimedia and animation. Meanwhile, a rich, interdisciplinary educational program meets the expectations of all age groups wishing to explore our region.
The exhibition, divided into modules-steps, will take the viewer through the history from the founding of the town in 1690 to the outbreak of World War II. The tour will begin with the princely Lubomirski family, which ruled the Charzewic-Rozhadov estate for more than 200 years. Subsequent stops take us through the dialogue of cultures in Rozwadów, the characteristics of the Rozwadów bourgeoisie, cultural, religious and patriotic life. We will see how the establishment of a railroad junction in the late 19th century, significantly developed the town economically and culturally.
During World War I, as a result of frontline fighting, Rozwadów and the entire Nadsanka region were devastated. This time will be illustrated by archival photos and war artifacts, but there will also be a wartime painting by Rozwadów-born Alfons Karpinski. A renewed boom, including in the cultural life of the city, took place after the restoration of independence. Thus, we will enter the atmosphere of the interwar town, see how daily life was organized, how cultural life flourished, how spiritual and religious development took place. We will discover forgotten treasures from Rozwadów’s temples.
A unique stop on the route is the extraordinary folk culture of the Lasowiak people, who inhabited the villages along the river. A separate stop is also the region’s prehistory, which documents traces of settlement from several thousand years ago – the huge cemetery of the Tarnobrzeg Lusatian culture discovered in the village of Pysznica is one of the greatest discoveries of 20th century archaeology in the Lower Nadsany.
Rozwadów lies exactly halfway between Lviv and Krakow. The town was founded in the hinterland, but at one time was a border town. From the beginning it was multicultural. Merchant, artisan, but also princely. Small, but once important as a railroad junction. Although it still exists, it is not on the map. Let’s get caught up in the unique atmosphere of the town, let’s rediscover our region.
