As part of the task, the following works were carried out, among others:
1. Conservation, restoration and construction works in the building of the former school workshops.
This part of the task was carried out by the company Zakład Remontowo-Budowlany Józef Bajek, selected in an open tender. As part of the works, the building of the former school workshops was adapted to a new function, namely the seat of the Museum of the Central Industrial District.
The Museum of the Central Industrial District presents the greatest economic uprising in the history of Poland. It is a history not only of the industrialization of the country, but also of the development of modernist architecture and art deco. In addition to economic factors, the museum presents the development of social life – the integration of the society of the Second Polish Republic, raising the standard of living of the population, and above all, ingenuity, diligence, innovation and pursuit of a goal, which can serve as an example for contemporary people.
The permanent exhibition also presents the history of the “pearl of COP” – Stalowa Wola – a city that was built from scratch at that time.
Conservation work in the building was carried out in accordance with the design of the F11 Design Studio from Kraków, which received a positive opinion from the Provincial Conservator of Monuments, Branch in Tarnobrzeg. The building was restored to its former glory, emphasizing its architectural values and industrial character.
2. Development of the area
The development of the area around the Museum was also carried out by the aforementioned company ZRB Józef Bajek. It included the preparation of green areas, parking, sidewalks, external lighting and an illuminated fountain active in the spring and summer period.
3 Construction of the permanent exhibition
The construction of the permanent exhibition was handled by the consortium selected in an open tender: Fabryka Dekoracji Marcin Pietuch and New Amsterdam Sp. z o.o. The exhibition space is divided into three parts:
The main exhibition entitled ‘Central Industrial District. The birth of innovative industry in Poland’ is devoted to the history of the CID. In addition to presenting the history of the ‘Polish economic miracle’ of the 1930s, we have the opportunity to learn about the most important figures connected with Polish science – not only from the inter-war period. The exhibition is divided into modules presenting the most important topics related to the CID: the development of industry, inventions, the development of transport. One part talks about architecture and social life. Each module consists of several spaces of a different nature: displays with monuments, interactive stands – including those requiring physical activity, multimedia stands with quizzes, knowledge-enhancing applications, and zones for children.
The ‘City for Children’ exhibition is a space divided into two modules: ‘City-Building’ and “City-Recreating”. In both spaces for learning through play, children can learn about the workings of, for example, simple tools, the principles of city building or take on the role of a performer in one of the many pre-war professions.
Riddle room An unusual adventure awaits visitors here: by solving a variety of tasks, they learn the story of one of the most interesting episodes in the history of the cons
As part of the task, the NOX Wojciech Szkodlarski company, selected in an open tender, carried out the conservation of 20 technical relics – pre-war machine tools that were once purchased for the South Works under construction. They can be viewed in the Museum.
100 artefacts connected with the history of the Central Industrial District were digitised, including machinery, furniture and documents. The task was carried out by Sabina Szkodlarska Monument Conservation company, selected through a tender request.
