Norblin in Mumbai
December 13, 2011 marked the grand opening of the exhibition “Stefan Norblin (1892-1952). A master of many arts” at the National Gallery of Modern Art (Sir Cowasji Jehangir Public Hall) in Mumbai (formerly Bombay).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by:
Her Highness Maharani Morvi
Representative of the Ministry of Culture of India Shri N. C. Goel
Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Mumbai Janusz Wach
Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Jacek Miler
Director of the National Gallery of Modern Art Prof. Rajeev Lochan
Curator of the exhibition from the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola Anna Szlazak
The exhibition in Mumbai is another, unique this time, exposure of Norblin’s work in India. The gallery was founded for the city of Mumbai in 1911 by Sir Cowasji Jehangir and his family. And it was here that Stefan Norblin had his only solo exhibition in India in 1944. Archival photos show that the exhibition was opened by gallery founder Sir Cowasji Jehangir. Now the artist’s works have returned and are of great interest to visitors, arranged in unusually interesting semi-circular spaces.
