Fotografia Dzikiej Przyrody 2013/Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013

Wildlife Photography 2013/Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013.

June 1-27, 2014 Presenting the world’s best photographic representations of nature.

Once again, we are hosting in our Museum an exceptional and unique exhibition “Wildlife Photography 2013/Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013″. It consists of works of photographers awarded in one of the most famous and prestigious nature photography competitions in the world – Wildlife Photographer of the Year, organized by the Natural History Museum in London and BBC Worldwide.

The contest has been held annually since 1965 and, as it has grown, has become the world’s most respected and largest wildlife photography event. Each time it results in an exhibition, shown in dozens of countries on all continents and, for the twelfth consecutive year, in Poland. This year’s edition of the exhibition consists of photos awarded and honored in 16 categories and 2 special prizes. The winning works were selected from nearly 43,000 photograms, taken by more than 4,000 authors from 96 countries.

The goals of the contest and exhibition’s organizers are to inspire ever new generations of photographers to create visionary and expressive interpretations of wildlife, as well as to present the collected photos to people around the world to show them the magnificence, drama and diversity of life on Earth and to stimulate them to care about its future. With the increasingly successful realization of these goals, better and better photos are being viewed by more and more viewers.

Life is also about timing and place. Being at the right time and in the right place can make the difference between getting food or staying hungry, finding a partner, and even life or death. This post-competition exhibition shows just such situations, thanks to the cinematographers’ being in the right place at the right time. A few moments later, a few seconds earlier – and these moments might not have been captured. Life is moving fast. Birth, danger, struggle, survival – they happen all the time, again and again. Most of these daily dramas are unknown to us. Thanks to photographers from around the world, some of these moments have been captured for us to see and contemplate. Some moments are ordinary, and others are extraordinary. Some uplifting and others raising questions about our impact on nature. This is also why the exhibition has a great educational value, showing us the drama and diversity of life on Earth, and thus stimulating in us the desire to care about its quality in the future.

Once again in the history of the exhibition there are photos – two – taken by Polish photographers. Lukasz Bożycki, from Warsaw, for his photo titled “Eye of the Toad” received an honorable mention in the “Animal Portraits” category, while Mateusz Piesiak’s photograph from Wroclaw, titled “Last Glimmer of Light,” was recognized as the best in one of the youth categories – “15-17 years old.

The latest edition of the exhibition will be hosted in Stalowa Wola for the third time, after a break of several years. In addition, it will also be seen in 2014 by residents of Bydgoszcz, Warsaw, Szczecin, Wroclaw and the Tri-City, among others.

The Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Minister of the Environment have assumed Honorary Patronage of the exhibition in Poland.

The national sponsor of the exhibition is the Economic Chamber of Polish Waterworks.
