Tarnobrzeg's Lusatian culture - the turn of the Bronze and Iron Ages on the lower San and Łęg: an archaeological exhibition
6.03-5.06.2016 Tarnobrzeg Lusatian culture – the turn of the Bronze and Iron Ages on the lower San and Łęg: archaeological exhibition
The main purpose of the exhibition is to present the phenomenon that was the Tarnobrzeg Lusatian culture, whose presence on the lower San and Łęg Rivers at the turn of the Bronze and Iron Ages as a cultural formation led to a significant change in the entire system of beliefs and funerary customs. The formation of a set of specific features of spiritual culture occurred, the archaeologically graspable element of which is the ashlar funerary rite. There is also a marked increase in settlement and population during this period.
Above the lower San and Łęg, the beginnings of the Tarnobrzeg Lusatian culture are dated to the younger sections of the Bronze Age (XII-VIII centuries B.C.) and development also falls into the early Iron Age (VII-IV centuries B.C.).
At the same time, there was a spread of knowledge of bronze processing – the first metal to gain such importance in the daily lives of the inhabitants.
The main focus of the exhibition will be on presenting the collection of artefacts in the possession of the Museum – from cemeteries in Pysznica and Gorzyce.
The historical material from Pysznica and from other cemeteries from the area on the lower San and Łęg Rivers allows us to get a very good idea of what daily life and burial customs looked like for the communities whose members were buried in these cemeteries.
Approximately 150 exhibits will be gathered at the exhibition, including burial pottery: ashtrays and other vessels known as appendages, unique profiled vase-like vessels known as nadsan vases characterized by their specific shape and rich ornamentation, a collection of bronze ornaments, as well as objects of daily use, weapons and working tools.
Artifacts from the collections of: the Archeological Museum in Cracow, the District Museum in Rzeszow, the National Museum of the Przemysl Region , the District Museum in Sandomierz, the Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa and the Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola.
