Teodor Axentowicz (1859–1938), painter, educator, "the real institution" in the cultural and artistic life of not only Kraków, but entire Poland. Artist of the European formation, in London and Paris remaining in contacts with the contemporary artistic and intellectual elite, got a glory as the master of elegant female images. Beside portraits painted in brought to perfection pastel-technique of portraits and feminine acts Axentowicz created also picturesque scenes of the folks life. An object of his special pictorial fascination were Huculs – Orthodox inhabitants of (currently Romanian and Ukrainian) eastern Carpathian Mountainses. He reaches to thematics related to the history of Armenia.
For thirty years he worked as a professor in the Kraków art school, and was also its rector.
