The
greatest exhibition of JaceK Malczewski’s works, which had ever been prepared
out of the Lvov Gallery, was in Stalowa Wola in 2002.
Visitors
could see 50 oil picture and 15 watercolours and drawings, which were review of
the author’s output of different parts of his artistic life. From picture of
“God’s Mother” – painted by the artist, when he was 20, to so well-known works,
as “Poisoned well” or “Self-portrait with fauns”
The
painter, who is recognized as one of the most original Polish artists, makes
people think of motifs o fauns, chimeras, water nymphs, symbols of vanishing
and death.
Jacek
Malczewski (1854-1929) had learned in Cracow (he was a pupil of Jan Matejko)
and later in Paris, at Ecole des Beaux Arts (at Ernest Lehman’s studio), Next
years he traveled to Italy and also to Turkey as a drawer of Karol
Lanckoroński. By many years Malczewski was a professor of the Fine Art Academy
of Cracow, between 1912-14 was its vice chancellor. His
art always aroused great interest and controversy. Many books and articles were
edited about it during last 100 years
The
art, what he created has got feature at master piece – had written Paweł
Huelle, the known writer, about that exhibition – Fact, that it grows up of the
Polish dream about freedom, desperados revolt and countless sufferings on the
one hand, and on the other hand it embraces by its wing mystery of death,
fatum, erotism, madness and art, what makes it ambiguous and rich.
